Woodlawn Initiative

The Woodlawn Foundation leads a comprehensive collaboration of partners committed to breaking the cycle of poverty in the Woodlawn community of Birmingham, Alabama. Their work is focused on the holistic revitalization of this community, including commercial, institutional, and residential rehabilitation and development.

Design Initiative worked with the Woodlawn Foundation to develop a 13-home residential courtyard development as a part of the market rate evolution of the neighborhood. Optimizing the area, the design incorporates existing infrastructure with new public amenities and new high quality, affordable and sustainable housing.
