This project involved the substantial renovation of the interior and exterior spaces of an existing residence. The house was unique but in need of an update. The home lacked significant connection to the site and the interior spaces were segregated which created a dimly lit interior. Many of the existing materials were salvaged, refurbished, and / or reused.
A significant focus of the project included creating better connectivity between interior and exterior spaces as well as taking better advantage of the picturesque views. Unnecessary walls were altered or removed, opening up and linking the spaces. Materiality and detailing was a critical component of the new work. Continuity was developed through thoughtful use of sympathetic material choice and usage. Finally, the client wanted a design that reflected their contemporary taste and desire to simplify their lifestyle. By eliminating clutter and opening up the house, the design accomplishes both.
